THREE people were taken to hospital after a property fire broke out caused by batteries that were being charged for an e-bike.
The fire in Wakely Road in Kinson was reported to the fire service at 12.48am on Monday.
It originated in the downstairs hallway and was caused by charging lithium batteries.
Three occupants were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews from Redhill, Poole and Westbourne attended the incident.
The property sustained “severe” damage with smoke damage throughout.
The fire service left the scene at 1.38am.
One resident says she was awakened shortly before 1am by her son who heard the incident.
She said: “My son saw it from his window and called the fire brigade. We were watching a younger gentleman who lives there trying to throw buckets of water on the fire but then it really took a hold and he actually went back inside. I remember thinking why is he going back inside?
“There were people shouting in the street. It only took seconds for it to take hold, didn’t take long. What concerned me was its position because it was right at the bottom of the stairs and by the front door.
“There was quite thick black smoke which took seconds to engulf the house it looked like. Hopefully they’re discharged today.”
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "We received a report from the fire service at 1.03am on Monday 21 March 2022 of a fire in Wakely Road in Bournemouth.
"Officers attended to assist the fire service."
