THREE landmarks in Dorset will be lit up throughout April for the World Functional Neurological Disorder awareness month.
BCP council will light the Bournemouth Pier in blue and Poole's Twin Sails Bridge in orange and blue for the whole month of April to raise awareness for Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
Alison Newland, a Poole resident diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, is also working hard for FND month, with her own plans to light up the Highcliffe Castle from April 11 to 14.
Alison is a volunteer peer support worker for FND Hope UK, a global patient-led charity for people with Functional Neurological Disorder.
She said: “I have become aware of more and more people in the BCP area that have FND. Our local FND community is growing and are determined to raise awareness of the condition.
“They are so excited about this wonderfully kind gesture of support from the local council.”
The charity will celebrate its 10th birthday this year, with Alison also planning a fundraising event to celebrate the occasion.
She said: “Many of our local FND community will be coming along. We have never actually met face to face but only spoken via technology so it will be lovely to actually meet up together.”
