A MAN has been handed a financial penalty by the courts over an offence committed on a train between Bournemouth and Southampton more than four years ago.
Andrew Ponniah, aged 48 and of Capstone Road, Charminster, was accused of failing to hand over a ticket for inspection and verification of validity when asked to do so by an authorised person on January 1, 2018.
The matter was taken to court by the South Western Trains franchise.
Court papers stated Ponniah pleaded guilty to the single chargeon December 22 last year.
He was not present at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 31, when the bench sentenced the offender.
Magistrates issued a £40 fine and ordered the defendant to pay £13.19 compensation, £30 surcharge and £20 costs.
