A MAN has had to pay nearly £500 for failing to pay a rail fare which was a little more than £50.
Charles Carr, 23, of Dale Close Poole, was proved in his absence of failing to pay the £51.20 rail fare at Bristol Temple Meads on September 22, 2021.
It was found that Carr travelled on the Great Western Railway without paying the fare with the intent to avoid payment.
He was not present for sentencing at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 4.
Magistrates fined the 23-year-old £220 for the offence and ordered him to pay compensation of £51.20
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £180.
