A BEACON will illuminate the night skies above Ringwood to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
On Thursday June 2, in recognition of Her Majesty’s 70th year as monarch, more than 2,000 beacons will be lit throughout the UK and overseas territories.
Ringwood’s beacon will be lit from the tower of the Church of St Peter and Paul in the Market Place.
Organised by Ringwood Town Council, the ceremony will start at approximately 9.30pm with an individual piper playing ‘Diu Regnare’ – tune written especially for the historic event.
This will be followed by a bugle call entitled ‘Majesty’ and the lighting of the beacon at 9:45pm. A scratch community choir will also be singing the ‘Song for Commonwealth’ which has also been written for the occasion.
All members of the community are invited to attend the event.
