Gallagher's Clothing in Pokesdown is our trader of the week

Gallagher’s Clothing in Bournemouth is home to a collection of men’s designer treasures, boasting clothing and accessories from classic brands like Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, C.P Company, Stone Island and Dsquared.

The shop was opened in 2015 by 48-year-old Barry Gallagher, a man with a passion for designer clothing and a talent for sourcing the highest quality garments.

Barry said: “It’s my passion. It’s what I love doing.

“I was fortunate enough to get the support from my family.”

Gallaghers is regularly stocked with both new and preloved designer goods, including jackets, trousers, tops, shoes and hats, with all items checked for authenticity.

The business was initially launched from the back of another Bournemouth-based shop, where Barry began to build his stock and customer base.

He said: “I was there for about nine months and started building things up.

“My pal came in one day and said there’s a place round the corner you could use for your shop.

“So, I moved there, and I was there for about two years. That’s when the shop really took off.”

Barry then moved to his third and current site, at 819 Christchurch Rd, where he has been for the last few years, and recruited the help of Poole based artist Trevor Loveys to install vibrant artwork around the premises.

The Christchurch Road store has quickly become a popular stop for all things designer, with a loyal customer base who regularly visit to scout for gems.

He said: “I have met a lot of lads who come here because they just really like the clobber.”

A lot of the designer goods first sold by Barry were garments and accessories of his own, but he also traded unique items he had sourced online and from markets.

Barry has also recently introduced a music and film section to Gallaghers, which can be found in the downstairs area of the shop, and he has plans to expand even further.

He said: “I’m looking to open another shop in London. That’s the goal.”
