COMMUNITY leaders have raised concerns about the state of a road in Poole.
The condition of Guest Avenue has sparked cause for concern with the road surface worn in places along with several pot holes, particularly at the junctions leading onto Yarmouth Road and Winston Avenue.
Ward councillor for Alderney and Bourne Valley, Tony Trent said: “Guest Avenue is one of the roads I highlighted last year when my request for a Scrutiny Committee on road maintenance finally got to committee.
“It is a bus route (the 16 and 36), is part of a route to school, and a very busy road. Since then it has got worse.
“I’ve asked the highway maintenance people to look at it again, as they have previously not prioritised it.
“Residents frequently raise the state of this road. It's an embarrassment to the area.”
A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The roads in the BCP area are assessed on an annual basis and we prioritise their maintenance when we have resources available. Routine safety inspections on roads such as Guest Avenue are ongoing and additional repairs will be made when appropriate.
“Resurfacing works are planned for the lower part of Guest Avenue and Yarmouth Road in the next 12 months and then the upper part of Guest Avenue with Winston Avenue will be resurfaced as part of a further scheme in the next few years.
“We have a long-term investment strategy in place which reduces maintenance backlog and allows the most efficient use of funding available.”
Speaking about the maintenance backlog, Councillor Trent said: “I think it needs doing regardless.
“In my opinion it would stand up to some of the worst roads in Bournemouth and Poole.
“Residents regularly complain about it because they can’t believe that this road is continually not getting done.”
