Firefighters are tackling a 'significant' blaze at the Lodmoor reserve in Weymouth.
The brigade was alerted at 2.30pm to the fire.
Three appliances from Weymouth and Portland, with two Land Rover pumps from Bere Regis and Maiden Norton are currently tackling what is described as a 'significant heath fire' in the area behind Lodmoor Country Park.
A resident said ash is falling on houses in the Lodmoor area and they can see lots of smoke.
The fire service has urged people to avoid the area where possible.
