BOURNEMOUTH residents who have reported the smell of smoke, have been told that it could be from a fire as far away as Surrey.
A number of people said they could smell and see hazy smoke in the Bournemouth area on Saturday afternoon.
But despite a heath fire raging at Lodmoor Bird Reserve in Weymouth, one local weather enthusiast has said it is due to a fire even further away in Surrey.
⚠️ We are currently in attendance at a fire in the open near Henley Park in #Pirbright after receiving the initial call at 11.28am. We have 12 fire & rescue vehicles there, including specialist units. Please avoid the area & those nearby should close windows and doors.

Weather account Bournemouth and Poole Weather said: "We’ve currently got a strong breeze gusting to 30-35mph blowing from a steady North Easterly direction.
"It's this wind that is bringing the burning smell across large parts of south. I was at Paultons Park earlier and there was actually some ash falling from the from sky.
"With the wind unlikely to change direction the burning smell will continue for a while yet."
It’s not Lodmore, the wind is a strong north easterly, smoke from that fire will blow across Weymouth, Chesil Beach and straight out into the Channel. pic.twitter.com/HqJgLE2d5e
