Even in the early years the road was one of the thoroughfares in the town.
As the town began to grow, the roads and mansions were demolished to make way for hotels, garages, an ice rink and cinemas.
Through the years there has been a turn towards retail, pubs, and restaurants.

Simon C Dunk brought in photos of George Hartwell garage in Westover Road, Bournemouth, when it held a motor rally in 1930s. Simon's paternal grandfather Joseph MaCann Dunk was the manager of the gargage. Note advertising posters on side of building.

Meyrick Mansion Hotel that was owned by Mrs Marjorie Lewis-Manning and stood at the corner of Westover Road and Bath Hill, Bournemouth. This iamge is from a hotel brochure sent out by Mrs Lewis-Manning in 1957.
