A person thought to be a motorcyclist was injured in a crash on a key route.
Emergency services were alerted to the A352 at Worgret Hill near Wareham about 5pm yesterday.
Police closed the road both ways between the A351 at Wareham and Puddletown Road, with the incident affecting traffic travelling between Wareham and Wool.
It is understood the collision, close to the bridge over the railway, involved a motorcycle and a car.
A man who came across the scene said an off-duty paramedic who was in the queue of traffic held up by the crash got out and gave the casualty initial treatment before the arrival of emergency services.
They thought the injured person may have been airlifted to hospital but this has not been confirmed.
Two emergency ambulances were at the scene.
The man said: "I hope he isn't too badly injured and makes a good speedy recovery."
Dorset Police have been contacted for a statement.
