DOGS desperate for loving owners were given a chance to show why're the perfect pets at a special parade.

Staffie and Stray Rescue hosted the rehoming parade at West Parley Memorial Hall on Sunday, May 15.

Sophie Vye, the charity's communications manager, said: "It is really important to us that we do find a home for the dogs, we don't want them to be passed around so we want to find them the right home so they can find their happy ever after.

Bournemouth Echo:

"At our rehoming parades we bring as many dogs as we can to the event so that our applicants that are looking to foster or adopt can come and meet the dogs

"Its a really good way to get up close and personal and see if they are the right dog for you."

An attendee of the event, Amy said: "My boyfriend and I have adopted a boxer dog before and were looking to get another dog that's why we came here today, we would rather adopt a dog than buy a puppy.

"These dogs really deserve a home and that's why we love these events because you can come down and meet the dogs and get a chance to play with them."

One of the dogs that proved very popular at the event was Elsa.

Lauren Timlim, from the charity, said: "The expression 'gentle giant' probably couldn't explain Elsa any better, she really has got a heart of gold.

"She is about three years old and unfortunately, has been in kennels with Staffie and Stray for about six months and prior to that, we don't know what she's been through.

It is evident she has had quite a lot of litters of puppies, bless her heart but we hope that today somebody met her and has fallen in love and she finds her forever home."
