LYMINGTON have announced the return of three players ahead of their second season in the Southern League.
Eastleigh stalwart Michael Green finished the season with the Linnets after departing Dorchester Town, whilst Nathan Hurst and Craig McAllister return to the Sports Ground after finishing the season elsewhere.
41-year-old Scot McAllister had started the 2021/22 campaign with the Linnets, plundering three goals in twelve appearances, after joining Lymington during their promotion season from Alresford Town.
However, at the end of 2021 he dropped down to the Wessex Premier to join up with Baffins Milton Rovers and their title charge, finishing the campaign with the Portsmouth based outfit.
Since starting as a youngster at nearby Eastleigh in the early 2000s, McAllister has scored over 200 goals in almost 700 career appearances. In the local area alone the striker has represented Basingstoke, Gosport, Alresford Town and Blackfield & Langley, alongside three senior stints with Eastleigh.
Arguably the Scot’s greatest moment came in the FA Cup, when he scored in Crawley Town’s 2-1 win over Derby County back in 2011.
Crawley went on to play at Old Trafford in the fifth round, finally falling to Manchester United 1-0 – with McAllister starting and playing for an hour at the theatre of dreams.
Midfielder Hurst, who is an analyst for Saints, left Lymo to return to AFC Totton, with a hope of helping the Stags into the play-offs. Unfortunately for Hurst and co., Totton’s bid faltered, meaning that the Stags will cross paths with the Linnets again this campaign.
Even without McAllister and Hurst, Lymo managed to stave off the drop in their debut Southern League season, finishing five points clear of Cinderford Town, who were defeated in an inter-step play-off and promptly relegated.
The retention of Green represents somewhat of a coup for Lymo, with multiple clubs at Step Three of the non-league pyramid keen on capturing his services.
