A STAG weekend took an unexpected turn for one group as they were faced with helping a goat in difficulty.
Members of a stag party celebrating on Bournemouth beach last weekend were seen climbing the East Cliff to help a goat that had its head stuck in a fence.
The group, from Nottingham, had been enjoying a day out on a beer bike when they noticed the troubled animal on the cliff.
George Bingham, the stag, said: “As we were walking back, we saw a load of people looking up at the goats on the hill."
It was George’s friends, Luke Ryder and Alex Berry, who could be seen climbing the cliff to help the goat in need.
George said: “A couple of my mates climbed over the fence and went up and freed the goat.
“Its head was stuck so they got it out and then came back down.”
Laura Clark, a Salisbury resident, was one beachgoer to witness the rescue. She said: “We were on Bournemouth beach for my daughter’s birthday, and this goat kept making this awful cry and so we went over to investigate.
“You could see it had its head stuck in the fence.
“We got there in the morning, but it was going on all day. It kept crying, and people were just standing and watching, and taking photos and videos. The other goats were trying to butt it out but that wasn’t working.
“Eventually, this stag party came along, and they felt so sorry for it. Two of the lads decided to climb up and help it.
“So, they jumped up onto the wall, climbed over the fence and into the goat’s side. They climbed all the way up and helped to release the goat.
“They freed the goat and luckily, they didn’t hurt themselves.”
