CHRISTCHURCH has been decorated with bunting and Union Flags as the town prepares for the upcoming Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Colourful bunting lines the high street and shop windows have been filled with British themed displays to build excitement among the community ahead of Christchurch’s jubilee celebrations.
One resident said: “It’s important to get involved in these events.
“Who doesn’t love the Queen?”
The decorations are in preparation for the four-day weekend, which will see the town celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of reign.
Another resident, Sheila, said: “We usually get involved in events. Druitt Gardens are doing something, and we’ll be doing something where I live too.”
Owners of shops in the high street are also getting involved, with displays of Union Flags and pictures of the Queen visible in many shop windows.
The PDSA charity shop is one to boast a particularly impressive window display. Marie Zawada, who works at PDSA, has created a best-of-British mannequin.
The window display has been produced with entirely upcycled materials, and has caught the attention of many passing shoppers.
Marie said: “Everything has been upcycled. Everything is from the shop or rags. The crown was made from a KFC bargain bucket."
Marie and her colleague, Susan Hayden, have been keen to get in the spirit ahead of the jubilee weekend.
She added: “We love the Queen.
“I think it’s really important that the community get together.”
Mathews Shoes is another high street shop to feature a mannequin display.
One worker said: “It’s a good thing for the community.
“All this time she’s been Queen and so it’s only right that we celebrate.”
Many Christchurch events have been planned for the jubilee weekend.
One to take place is a children’s tea party, a family fun event scheduled for Saturday June 4 at Druitt Hall & Gardens.
Many Christchurch residents will also be hosting their own street parties across the four-day weekend.
With decorations already out, and residents getting excited, Christchurch is definitely looking jubilee ready.
