The victim, a woman, approached two people who she believed were shoplifting.
Dorset Police said it was reported that the store manager was then pushed and subject to racial abuse.
The incident happened in the Aldi store in Pitwines Close at approximately 12pm on Monday, May 9.
Police have released images of two people they would like to speak with in connection with their investigation.
Police Constable Alex Sharp, of Poole police, said: “Dorset Police takes all reports of hate crime very seriously and we are carrying out a full investigation into this matter."
The officer added: “There were a number of people in the store at the time of the incident and I would ask anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police, to please come forward.”
