A MAN has been handed a hefty court bill for travelling beyond the distance paid for on a train.
Prosecutors alleged that Modise Ncube, 39, had paid for a fare for a journey between Wolverhampton and Winchester but he knowingly and wilfully proceeded beyond the destination without previously paying for the additional distance.
The location of the offence, which was a crime under the Regulation of Railways Act 1889, was listed as New Milton and the matter took place on February 3, court papers stated.
Ncube, whose address was given as Lymington Road, New Milton, was convicted in his absence at a Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court hearing on May 24.
Magistrates issued the defendant with a £220 fine along with orders to pay £16.40 compensation, £34 surcharge and £160 costs.
A collection order was made for the total financial bill of £430.40 to be paid by June 21.
