REVIEW: Pet Shop Boys deliver a great night at the BIC

The venue was absolutely rammed with a crowd that were expecting a spectacular show and thy were not disappointed.

The crowd is a real mix of ages which was great to see and also a testament to the longevity of the songs this band have produced over the past five decades.

Following a bit of a theme from my last few gigs at the BIC they had no support and instead opted for an earlier than usual start and a set full of all the hits.

A theatrical intro climaxed with Neil and Chris appearing under two individual spotlights resplendent in long white coats and silver helmets complete with horns.

The opening bars of Suburbia drew a huge roar from the crowd as did Can You Forgive Her and Opportunities.

With such big, big tunes so early on in the set list you wondered how they would maintain the momentum and they then continued with When The Streets Have No Name, Rent and another two hours full of some of the best electro pop songs ever written.

At the Pet Shop Boys gigs I have been to in the past they have always guaranteed some flamboyant costume changes and a stage production that will blow you away and tonight was to be no different.

The backdrop screens were really effective as was the light show and the superb backing band and singers.

As we were treated to Domino Dancing, Love Comes Quickly and What Have I Done To Deserve This the energy in the crowd just grew and grew so by the time we reached main set closers Go West and It’s A Sin the whole place was bouncing.

A short encore of smash hit West End Girls and Being Boring ended the show on a real high but I am sure the evening did not end there for a crowd that looked ready to continue partying well into the night.
