It marked the first day of a four-day weekend to celebrate 70 years since Queen Elizabeth’s coronation.
Chairman of BCP Council Cllr Nigel Hedges cut the ribbon to open the celebrations in Isaacs Road, Poole.
He said: “It’s a real thrill. From my point of view as chairman of BCP Council, you want it to be all about community and this isn’t about politics today.
“We’ve got other community groups I’ve visited and had to drink tea and eat cake which is a bit of a chore.
“This is all about community, after two years of real trial with Covid not being able to get together, this is amazing.”
Elsewhere, Lake Road neighbours came together with cake, fruit and beer for a celebration which included a home-made music box.

Organiser Melle Laing said: “It’s absolutely lovely and we’re very blessed with the weather.
“I can’t fault the Queen, she’s just incredible, 70 years has got to be celebrated.”
In Stamford Road, Southbourne, residents celebrated the jubilee and the 100-year anniversary of Pokesdown & Southbourne Ex-Servicemens Club.
Susie Davies, previous treasurer of the club, said: “Today has been a fab day so far and it has been a great chance for the club to offer a community spirit to our neighbours.
“This is my club and today we have a great day planned, we have Punch and Judy, face painting, pin the tail on the donkey and free burgers, sausages and chips.”
Mel Peacock added: “The club is 100 years old this year so today is a double celebration and it’s a great way to get all the community together and to celebrate the Queen’s coronation.
“I was born and brought up in Bournemouth so it’s nice to celebrate with everyone.”
