A MAN from Dorset who littered a cigarette butt in Salisbury city centre has been fined by the courts.
Kieran Laws, aged 28, was alleged to have thrown down, dropped or otherwise deposited a cigarette butt and left it in New Canal on January 20.
Laws, whose address was given as Hardy Road, Ferndown, was taken to court by Salisbury City Council.
The accusation against the defendant, an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, was proved through the single justice procedure at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on May 31.
Laws was not present at court when a single magistrate imposed a £220 fine and ordered him to pay £155 costs and a £34 surcharge – a total court bill of £409.
