A MASSIVE superyacht has stolen the show (and horizon) in Poole this week and is a first of its kind for the harbour.
Currently berthed in the Port of Poole Marina and dwarfing boats near it is the 67m superyacht Nebula, which arrived on Sunday evening from Gijon in Spain after a two-day voyage.
Visitors to Poole Quay stood in awe as the massive vessel arrived and soon took to social media to discuss it. “Superyacht? More like a Super-Duper Yacht” said one man.
“Seen her yesterday, what an absolute stunner. Hope the owner enjoys its full potential”, said another.
While quite a way off the largest yacht to have visited Poole Harbour – the 89m Here Comes The Sun – the boat is the first ‘ShadowCat’ to have ever docked at the marina.
ShadowCat superyachts are more than a typical support vessel as they can accommodate a range of airborne, marine and land-based vehicles including jet skis, quad bikes, speedboats, submarines, and helicopters.
Nebula was built in Spain by Astilleros Armón and delivered in 2022. Her top speed is 21kn her power comes from two MTU diesel engines.
She is built with an aluminium deck, hull, and superstructure.
Nebula is in the top 5 per cent of yachts by length overall in the world and is one of 187 motor yachts in the 60-70m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her top speed is 4.06 kn above average.
A British flag waved proudly atop the vessel while in Poole Marina.
Harbour master Captain Brian Murphy told the Echo: “This is very much a growth market and Poole Harbour is fast becoming the UK’s number one destination for superyachts.
“This year we will expect to welcome around 20, with three bookings taken just this week.
“It is great news for the local economy with all of the superyachts using local shops for storing of provisions and essential items and local marine repair companies for any maintenance requirements.
“In recent years, as part of decarbonisation, we have introduced shore power facilities for superyachts.
“We are very proud of our highly experienced marina staff and the excellent levels of service they take great pride in providing. This has resulted in both of Poole Harbour Commissioners marinas achieving the highest five gold anchor standard every year since 2011.”
