A ROAD closure was put in place at Canford Heath last night after damage to a gas main which apparently caused four homes to be evacuated.
Canford Heath Road was closed from the Ashdown roundabout (also known as the Asda roundabout) to the junction with Sherborn Crescent after damage to a gas main amid ongoing works.
Engineers and police are on site dealing with the issue and it is understood that four homes were evacuated.
An SGN spokesperson told ward councillor Sandra Moore that: “Whilst laying new fibre cable, CityFibre have hit and damaged the MP (medium pressure) gas main on Canford Heath Road.
“Our engineers are on site now carrying out immediate repairs to the gas main, the police are on site assisting with the evacuation of four homes that are located within the RED working Zone. There are no interruptions to local gas supplies.
“It is likely our engineers will be working late into the night, but cannot confirm at this stage how long the repairs will take. We will keep you updated on progress.”
Fellow councillor Sean Gabriel also reported heavy traffic in the area due to the road closure which has also affected Adastral Road.
Due to a burst Gas Main Route 5 will run Poole to Adastral Road then direct to Canford Heath Road NOT serving Sherbourne Crescent or Culliford Crescent. Route 6 will run Poole to Sherbourne Crescent then direct to Tower Park. NOT serving Culliford crescent. ^JB
