SUMMER is here and the beach will be busy over the next few months.
Many of us will be out and about enjoying the long hot days on days off, weekends and evenings.
If you use a bike on the prom, you’ll need to be aware of annual summer rules that come into force.
Here’s what you need to know.
What are the restrictions?
During July and August, cycling is not permitted on the seafront during much of the day. Cyclists must dismount and push their bike.
What hours are the measures in place?
You can’t cycle on the prom between 10am and 6pm which is when the beach is at its busiest.
Can I cycle on the prom outside these hours?
Yes, you can but you’ll need to follow the usual rules for cycling on the prom.
What are the rules?
You must keep to a speed limit of 10 miles per hour.
You must give way to pedestrians.
You should get off your bike if you see a ‘no cycling’ signs.
People are also urged not to cycle in groups.
