AN INDEPENDENT wine bar and shop in Christchurch will be getting new owners after a “gorgeous” six years of trading.
In a public social media post, managing director of Bodega, Megan Fowler-Spink thanked her colleagues, family and customers for their contributions to the venture’s success – which included making the Observer Food Monthly awards as one of the UK’s best bars multiple times.
The current management team will handover the Wick Lane bar on Saturday, July 2.
She said: “After a gorgeous six years of serving up the most incredible wines we could hunt down, it’s time to say goodbye to the Bodega.
“The Bodega has been the most incredible passion project for me and in later years my husband James too.
“I couldn’t be more proud of what I’ve achieved with her. Making the Observer Food Monthly awards… Listed as one of Olive magazines best wine bars, as well as winning best bar in our local BH postcodes and Christchurch Food Festival’s best venue multiple times.
“A huge thank you to all of you who have been involved over the years. You all have helped shape the space that has been incredibly sacred to me.
“I’ve mixed emotions about seeing her off, mainly positive. It’s definitely time as I’ve got my hands full with two absolutely gorgeous sons.”
Megan insisted it “won’t be the end for the wine journey”. She added: “There will be pop ups in the future for sure. But for 12 Wick Lane, it’s a story told.
“I really hope to enjoy a glass of wine or few with you to see her off properly. Thank you team B, you’re the best.”
The bar opened in 2016 and proved an immediate hit with customers, offering more than 100 wines and spirits as well as deli style food.
One woman said: “Wow, this is so sad. We know how much passion and hard work you have put into your incredible bar and will miss you and Bodega very much. We look forward to seeing what creative spirit you bring to Christchurch in the future.”
This story has been edited to clarify the bar will remain open under different owners.
