FIRE and rescue crews have helped cows stuck in mud in Christchurch.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have responded to two cows that were stuck in mud in the Mill Stream behind Waitrose on Wednesday.
The cows had reportedly escaped from a nearby field.
A wading team from Christchurch White Watch and an animal rescue team from Poole worked hard to get both cows back to safety on the river bank.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 1.33pm a crew from Christchurch and two Technical Rescue teams from Poole attended an incident involving the rescue of cattle from a river on Beaconsfield Road, Christchurch.
"The technical rescue teams cut away branches from the river bank to provide an exit route for the cattle whilst wading teams provided herding support in the river.
"Our stop came at 4.07pm when the cows were released from the river and returned to the field."
