POLICE have issued a warning after receiving reports of youths pier jumping in Purbeck.
Officers from the Purbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team South were patrolling the town on the lookout for antisocial behaviour on Thursday evening.
A spokesperson said: “We have received recent reports that youths are gaining access to the pier, in and out of hours for the purpose of pier jumping.
“We would like to remind those involved in this activity that this is extremely dangerous.
“At this time of year there are a lot of vessels mooring in this area, and jumping blindly into water not knowing what obstacles are under the surface could cause severe injury or worse, death.
“The pier, old pier structure and 75 metres of the surrounding waters are privately owned by the Swanage Pier Trust.
“The Pier Trust have informed us that if this ASB continues they will not hesitate in taking appropriate legal action against offenders, in the form of private prosecution.”
