A ‘GHOST driver’ stopped by police stumped officers who could not find any records of her – until she confirmed her true identity.
Dorset Police Traffic Unit officers stopped a Seat in the Christchurch area on Thursday, June 23, on information that it was being driven by a disqualified driver.
After stopping, the female driver gave police some information which they initially believed to be legitimate however were unable to find any records of her. A police spokesperson said it was “almost as if she didn't exist”.
Officers persevered and upon comparing the woman to a photo of who they thought would be driving, she admitted her identity – narrowly avoiding a trip to custody to verify it.
It was soon discovered that she was disqualified for impaired driving until late next year. The traffic officers then duly reported her for driving whilst disqualified and seized the vehicle.
A Dorset Traffic Cops spokesperson said: “Courts hand down driving bans for a reason – for protection of the motoring public and we continue to ensure people stay off the roads when they're given time away from the wheel.”
