CHRISTCHURCH MP Sir Christopher Chope has thanked Boris Johnson for his “great service to our nation” in his time as Prime Minister.
Sir Christopher said he thinks people will “rue the day” that Mr Johnson was “forced to resign”.
The current leader of the Conservative Party is expected to announce he is stepping down as Prime Minister today following more than 50 Government resignations, including several cabinet ministers.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday morning, Conservative backbencher Sir Christopher said: “May I thank the Prime Minister for his great service to our nation and also to the people of Ukraine and I think that people will rue the day that he was forced to resign.
“Can I say to my right honourable friend that isn’t there a lot to be said for having a smaller cabinet, fewer minister and hardly any private parliamentary secretaries and can we have pilot to show how successful that is going to be?”
In response, Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Ellis, who was speaking in the House of Commons following an urgent question by Labour’s Angela Rayner, said: “He makes a perfectly interesting point but it is somewhat out of the range of my responsibilities.”
