BOURNEMOUTH Water has confirmed Fountain roundabout in Christchurch will fully reopen by the end of tomorrow after a water leak caused long delays fordrivers.

One lane of the Fountain roundabout has been closed due to ongoing repair work, with drivers reporting delays of up to one hour. 

A Bournemouth Water spokesperson said: “Our team is on site repairing a burst water main in the central reservation of the duel carriageway on Fountain Way, Christchurch.

"To ensure the fix can be carried out safely, a single lane closure will be in place in both directions of the carriageway.

"We will look to repair the burst and reinstate the road as quickly as possible and would like to thank customers for their patience.”

Traffic was heavy this morning around 7.15am with cars queueing between the Fountain roundabout and Stony Lane roundabout. 

Delays were made worse by an accident on the Avon Causeway. 

Morebus said last night: Due to a burst water main at Fountain roundabout, Christchurch there are long delays on the surrounding roads.  

“The X1 X2 and 23 are running with severe delays because of this. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.” 

Yellow Bus said: Due to roadworks in Christchurch, we are seeing delays on routes 1, 1a, 1b, 4, 33, and Buster's Beach Bus of up to 60 minutes during peak times due to emergency works on the Christchurch Bypass.”
