GP patient survey reveals Dorset's best and worst practices

The GP Patient Survey has revealed Dorset’s best and worst doctor’s surgeries in 2022, according to residents who rely on their services. 

Across the county, Dorset GPs scored higher than the national average on patients’ overall experience of services, with 80 per cent responding good or very good.  

The national average is 72 per cent, but this year's score is eight per cent lower than the overall satisfaction in 2021. 

More than 9,000 people took part in the survey, which provides vital feedback on the quality of care and service of general practices. 

Of the participants, 96 per cent had confidence in the healthcare professional they saw or spoke to and 87 per cent found the receptionist helpful or very helpful.

Corfe Castle Surgery, Yetminster Medical Centre, The Old Dispensary all made the top three in rating ‘good’ or ‘very good’ in overall experience. 

The surgeries rating the lowest with ‘very poor’ scored on overall experience was Crescent Providence Surgery and The Wellbridge Practice.  

Dr Paul Johnson, chief medical officer at NHS Dorset, said “When you consider the immense pressure and increasing demand that primary care continues to come under, we are delighted with the high number of positive responses to this survey; however, we recognise that in some areas - although we are doing better than the national average – the scores appear disappointing. 

“Primary care staff work extremely hard to help deliver the care that people need when they need it. 

“These results reflect their commitment and dedication, and I would personally like to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly during the pandemic whilst at the same time, delivering high quality care. 

“General practice has seen many changes including the introduction of new ways of consulting and additional roles to help increase access to the right support for patients and these positive responses show that this way of working is successful. 

“We would like to thank the public for their continued support for general practice and their feedback which helps us to continue to improve our services here in Dorset.”
