FORMER AFC Bournemouth star Callum Wilson has been handed a driving ban after speeding in his Lamborghini at 58mph in a 30mph zone.
England international Wilson, who now plays for Newcastle United, pleaded guilty to a single offence of speeding.
The 30-year-old, whose address on the court papers was given as Poole, broke the speed limit on the A1919 Whitley Road, Benton, on Saturday, March 5.
He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure and the case was dealt with at Gateshead Magistrates' Court on July 8.
Wilson was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay a £100 surcharge and £110 costs.
He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 28 days.
A statement of facts obtained from Gateshead Magistrates' Court, where the case was dealt with, said: "Following a camera activation at 11.48am on March 5, 2022 at A191 Whitley Road, Benton, vehicle registration number ******* exceeded the speed limit travelling at 58mph therefore exceeding the 30mph limit legally permissible for that road."
The statement said Wilson returned a notice of intended prosecution confirming he was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence.
"An endorsable fixed penalty was not appropriate in this case due to the speed recorded," it added.
The matter before the courts was Wilson's first driving offence.
A source close to Wilson said he accepted responsibility for what had happened and it was an honest mistake from his part.
