A FAMILY run butchers with more than 70 years’ experience- B Curtis Family Butchers is Trader of the Week.

Found in Wareham, B Curtis is a butchers and delicatessen providing the finest quality meat and produce.

The business was launched by Basil Curtis in 1951, and has since traded across three generations, with his grandson David now taking the reins.

David said: “It started with Basil and passed onto Derrick, my dad. My dad wanted to retire, but it’s a family business that I didn’t want to see sold. So, I got involved with the business this year.

“It’s a really great business- it’s part of the community. Everyone knows the family here, and I want to keep that going.

“It’s a bit of a career change for me. I used to work in London in financial services, but I think with Covid, a lot of people have been changing what they do for work.”

Since joining the family business, David has introduced a delivery service, allowing customers to get their favourite B Curtis products delivered to their door.

Shoppers can choose between the finest quality raw meet, including Black Gold Beef direct from Aberdeenshire, Dorset Lamb and Purbeck Pork, as well as cheeses, pies, salamis, cooked meats and cooking sources.

David said: “Having a website where people can actually see the produce and know how much it is serves a great purpose.

“Telling people where our produce is from is quite key for us as well.”

But despite the availability of a delivery service, B Curtis is never short of instore shoppers. David said: “We pretty much know everyone who comes in here on a first name basis. But we’re in quite a quaint town near the river, so we get a lot of passing trade from tourists too."

B Curtis also supplies some big names in the hospitality industry. David said: “We are currently supplying the Pig on the Beach in Studland, and The Nici- the new 5 star hotel in Bournemouth.”

“We also supply big pubs around Wareham and Weymouth.”
