A ‘GANG’ of beggars have been identified as operating in Swanage by a policing team who have warned members of the public.
Purbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team say they “gave words of advice” and stopped a male begging in Station Road, Swanage, on Thursday July 21.
Officers have reported a “gang working the streets” who implore several tactics in order to gain money and food from passers-by.
A Purbeck Police spokesperson said: “Members of this gang empty their money pots regularly to give the impression that they aren't being given money and hide food that is given to them under the blankets they have.
“Whilst you may be compelled to be generous, we must remind you that begging is an offence.”
They added that vulnerable individuals are identified and signposted to the relevant safeguarding agencies where they can receive the correct assistance.
