FIRE crews were carried to Brownsea Island by the RNLI to tackle a heath blaze.
A crew from Poole and Westbourne were called to the island shortly after 1.30pm on Monday.
A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received the call at 1.34pm on Monday, August 1, with reports of a fire on Brownsea Island.
“Two fire engines were mobilised, one from Poole and one from Westbourne. On arrival, crews found an area of heath and scrub alight measuring 30m x 20m and assisted island responders to extinguish the fire using two main jets.
“The stop came back at 2:52pm and crews remained on scene until just after 4pm. The RNLI assisted with transporting the firefighters and equipment to the island.”
An RNLI Poole Lifeboats spokesperson said: “Both Poole lifeboats launched earlier today to assist Poole Fire Station after reports of a fire on Brownsea Island.
“Fire crews and equipment were transported via lifeboat to the island and close to the location of the fire with damage being kept to a minimum.”
