BCP Council is looking into the possibility of bringing a lido to the conurbation, the deputy leader has revealed.
There are currently no lidos in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.
Councillor Phillip Broadhead said: “It’s no secret that I’ve been a big advocate of trying to push for a lido in the BCP region for some time.
"I’m really pleased to see the idea now getting traction, and as part of the Seafront Strategy work, I understand our council team is looking into whether the investigations we are undertaking into geothermal power could be tied into a possible lido at some point in the future.

"Whilst it’s great that we have 15 miles of golden beaches and coastline, a safe and carbon friendly heated lido would really add to our world class coastal offer.”
Currently, the nearest lido is in Lymington.
Numerous residents voiced their opinions about where they felt a proposed lido should be located when the topic was debated on the Poole Community Group Facebook page.
One resident said: "Baiter Park. Been thinking this for years. Such a great idea. Make it accessible and affordable for all. What a great asset it would be if run properly."

Other comments suggest sites such as Hamworthy Park and Poole Park.
Another resident said: "It would be well used all year round. I know we have the sea but many people have a fear of choppy water, and unknown things touching them."
One person added: "Open air pool/lido would be a huge addition not to mention a facility for people to learn to swim too. I taught at this one in London for years and it is a fantastic place and so well looked after. If BCP could replicate that then would be onto a winner."
But not all of the locals were as enthusiastic about the concept, one resident said: "We have the sea…it’s free. Suggestions to put it at Baiter or Hamworthy will just mean those areas, quieter for locals often, will become busy, congested, have less parking, be expensive etc."
