PICTURES show the extent of heathland destroyed by the fire at Upton Heath on Thursday, August 4.
Aerial images captured via a drone show how the blaze spread across the heath in a “thin strip”, as described by incident commander Allan Frias-Robles – who was one of more than 60 firefighters to attend the emergency.
While a multi-agency response helped rescue a herd of cattle, it is unknown how much wildlife was killed in the fire which covered 0.6 hectares of land.
It is believed the fire was started deliberately, however investigations were ongoing as of Thursday evening.
