A FIRE at a beauty spot in Wimborne was caused a group of people having a barbecue in the open.
At 8.39pm, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised one crew from Wimborne Fire Station to reports of a small blaze in the open at Eye Bridge.
On arrival, firefighters were met by a member of the public who informed them that people were having a barbecue in the field opposite.
Crews investigated and subsequently found disposable barbecues left on the ground as well as the remains of a camp fire.
As well as the left barbecues, rubbish was strewn across the grass.
A Wimborne Fire Station spokesperson said: “Please remember in this period of dry weather how quickly a small fire can escalate and cause catastrophic damage to wildlife.
“We understand people wish to enjoy our beauty spots but please don’t ruin it for everyone else, please take your rubbish home.”
