THE MAJOR fire at Studland heath is believed to have been caused by a barbecue or campfire.
The fire service has said evidence has been found of a barbecue and campfire at the scene of the fire and that this is the most likely cause.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We have found evidence of a campfire and barbecue at the seat of the fire on Studland and believe this to be the cause of the fire which started yesterday.
"Please DO NOT have campfires, bonfires or use barbecues in the countryside."

The fire at Studland Heath was reported to the fire service at 1.12pm on Friday afternoon.
Around 90 firefighters from across Dorset were at the scene of the incident which affected an area of 200x200 metres.
The Sandbanks Ferry was suspended and visitors had to be evacuated from the area during the multi-agency response.
Crews fought the fire on all sides, using multiple jets and beaters, and National Trust staff used machinery to create a fire break.
