EATERIES across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have joined forces with a mobile app in the fight against food waste and hunger.

Restaurants, cafes, and stores across the conurbation have joined the Too Good to Go App, which helps to puts surplus food into the hands of hungry customers.

Too Good To Go has claimed that more than 1/3 of food is wasted, and the company is fighting to change that statistic.

The app allows users to secure ‘magic bags’, containing a mix of left-over meals, baked goods or groceries, that would otherwise be thrown away at the end of the working day.

The bags are sold for a small fee and can be collected at a time as given by the business.  The Daily Echo has put together a list of some of the places offering the Too Good To Go service across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole...

Naked Coffee

The ‘magic bags’ from Naked Coffee can contain a mix of goods, including pastries, sandwiches, salads and pasta.

They can be collected from a number of branches, including Bournemouth and Poole.

Ian Saul of Naked Coffee said: “For us it’s not about the money, its more to be ethical with food waste.

"It's in a way that doesn’t come back on the business. If you give food away free to charities, there’s always a risk of a comeback, if someone says the food is going out of date or they get it a day late and then they come back, you can be sued which is a very sad state of affairs.

“It works really well. Its easy and its user friendly.”

The Artful Baker

The ‘magic bags’ from The Artful Baker in Christchurch are perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

One of the popular snacks that could be included is the twice-baked biscuits with spiced apple and white chocolate pieces.

The ‘magic bags’ from Pret regularly contain a mix of items from the breakfast menu including porridge, breakfast rolls or croissants.

They can be collected from a number of branches, including Bournemouth.

50% of the profits from the magic bag go to support the Pret Foundation in their mission to alleviate poverty, homelessness and hunger.

Tortilla

The ‘magic bags’ from Tortilla include a naked burrito bowl filled with surplus rice, beans, protein/veg and fresh salsas – at a third of the price.

They can be collected from a number of branches, including Bournemouth.

A spokesperson for Tortilla said: “Tortilla works with Too Good To Go in their plight to save food waste.

“All funds raised from the sale of Tortilla’s magic bags goes to the Tortilla Trust: a fund set up to support the brand’s charitable, social and environmental initiatives.

“For us, Too Good To Go is a great way to educate customers that good food doesn’t need to go to waste, as opposed to a way to save money."
