Damage caused to Morebus in West Howe captured by passenger

Chris Nicholls was travelling on the Morebus service when youths threw pellets or ball bearings at the vehicle.

Despite having his headphones on, he said he heard a “loud bang” when the attack took place just before the parade of shops in Cunningham Crescent on Thursday night.

Mr Nicholls said he uses buses to get to or from work and currently it is far cheaper than driving.

“People can successfully use buses without a worry there is around 15 to 20 CCTV cameras on the bus inside and out whilst I do hope this was a one off incident these incidents could happen anywhere up-and-down the country,” he said.

“The only thing they will have success in is delaying other people when need to sort themselves out first. It was not fun it was scary for me and the other 10 passengers on the bus.”

Mr Nicholls praised the driver who took the decision to move the bus to Tesco in Kinson after he had contacted the Morebus central team to report what had happened.

Passengers were collected from Kinson by another bus, which had travelled from Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

As reported, Morebus suspended its 14, 5 and 5a services in West Howe on Thursday night following the incident.

On Saturday night a number 14 service was targeted again but in a different area of West Howe. The three routes were diverted again for the rest of the evening but resumed as normal on Sunday.
