CHRISTMAS celebrations organised by the council will not be downplayed despite  the cost-of-living crisis.

Lights displays, ice rinks and festive markets are set to make a full return to the conurbation this Christmas.

While full details are yet to emerge, civic leaders have insisted the events in Bournemouth and Poole will help lift spirits over the festive season.

Councillor Beverley Dunlop, BCP Council portfolio holder for tourism, culture and vibrant places, said: “This year, the rise in the cost of living is a real concern for everyone which is why free events such as Bournemouth's Christmas Tree Wonderland - as well as our new Poole Christmas Maritime Light Festival - is so important to everyone when times are challenging.”

This year has seen a whole host of household price increases, seeing families face costs of hundreds or even thousands of pounds extra per year.

Despite the current climate, BCP Council are still putting out all the stops to make it a successful festive season.

Cllr Dunlop added: “The success of our free summer programme that included Festival Coast Live! highlights the significance in providing these kinds of events, and we're hoping our Christmas festivals will bring all our residents outside once again, celebrating the festive season while enjoying all the free entertainment on offer, creating a real sense of community in our area.

“We’re working with partners to offer a range of support around the cost of living, and I’d encourage anyone who is struggling to visit our Household Support Fund webpages at bcpcouncil.gov.uk/householdsupportfund.”

One popular event set to return to Bournemouth is the popular Christmas Tree Wonderland- a trail through the gardens with festival themed illuminations and a 60ft walk through tree.

Cllr Dunlop said: “Bournemouth’s Christmas Tree Wonderland will once again be delighting residents and visitors to Bournemouth from 18 November with some exciting new light installations as well as the old favourites such as the popular 60-foot walk-through feature tree, the Alpine Market, the ice-rink and other festive delights.”

BCP Council is also introducing a Christmas Maritime Light Festival to Poole. Running for six weeks from November 19, the festival will feature maritime-themed illuminations on display all the way from the bus station to Poole Quay.
