A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The train at Poole Park Railway derailed at around 2pm this afternoon after debris was found on the track.
“Nobody was hurt and the team are working hard to get the service going again.
“We'll let you know when it's up and running. Sorry for any inconvenience.”
The popular attraction has experienced multiple delays in reopening.
The railway was initially suspended in 2018 after a series of problems, including derailments and staff shortages.
In 2019, planning permission was granted for the demolition and replacement of its engine shed while the 640m track also needed to be re-laid.
This summer efforts to bring back the popular attraction were stalled after the council failed to secure a contingency engine as promised in December last year.
