TEENAGER Daniel Wright claimed the Poole Boxer of the Night Trophy at Poole ABC's annual dinner show at the Lighthouse earlier this month.
The 18-year-old fought in the last bout of the seven-match event, beating Blackmore Vale boxer Ben Bovey on a majority points win.
Four hundred dinner guests attended the event with an extra 200 friends and family of the boxers on show watching on from the balcony.
Poole ABC coach Neal Partridge was delighted with how the evening went.
"It was a really successful night. We sold a lot of tickets which was pleasing, and although three bouts were cancelled at the last minute we managed to have someone representing Poole in all seven fights," said Partridge.
In the junior category, 16-year-old George Sparrow received the Stylist of the Night Trophy after his fast footwork helped him defeat Kieran Tinker-Hinkes of Sturminster Newton - also claiming a majority points win.
Sam Lannahan won his fight against Portsmouth's Hains, but Raynor Mason, Mako Harriot and Jimmy McCann, who opened the show, could not find a way past their opponents.
Debutant Jimmy Reynolds, meanwhile, gave Poole a perfect two wins out of two in the seniors category when he beat Bagley (Cooper Boys) before Wright stole the show with an excellent display of textbook boxing.
"I was really pleased with the way they all boxed to instruction and maintained a good discipline throughout their fights," explain-ed Partridge, who has coached at the club for the last 15 years.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, Poole ABC has proved to be hugely successful over the years, with this year being no exception.
"We've got between 30 and 40 members in both the junior and seniors categories, and recently four of them competed for Dorset against Cornwall in Newquay," the coach added. "Although they didn't get the results they wanted they got a good experience."
Training takes place at Trinidad Boys Club, Poole, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Anyone interested in joining should contact Partridge on 07792 414235.
