A BUTCHERS bringing “the best of Dorset produce together under one roof” - Craftmeat Dorset is Trader of the Week.
Craftmeat Dorset is a butchers offering grass fed beef and lamb, free range poultry and local pork and game, all sourced within the region.
The brand was created by Australian-born Anthony Navarro in 2020.
He said: “The whole idea about Craftmeat Dorset is to bring everything Dorset based from cheese and milk to hams, RSPCA certified and free range produce, all under one roof.”
Earlier this year, an opportunity for Craftmeat Dorset to open its first shop presented itself.
Anthony recruited the help of Patrick Briggs, a man with 20 years of experience as a butcher, and by June, Craftmeat Dorset had opened within the Hillier Garden Centre at Three-Legged Cross.
Patrick said: “I used to be a butcher, and then through lockdown I was doing a bit to help Anthony out, and I got the bug again.
“So, when Anthony was presented this opportunity, I thought it was too of one to miss.
“It was originally going to be launched as an online business, so when this was presented, we changed our business plan around.”
Just a few months in, the Craftmeat Dorset has already become a popular visit for meat-eaters and has been praised for its pledge to source products within a 30-mile radius of the store- where possible.
Anthony said: “People come in and say they’ve always needed a butchers like this!
”I’ve introduced Dorset rare breeds, things that have been around for hundreds of years, and I’ve shed light on them.
“The rare breed here in Dorset is just one of a kind."
But the pair aren’t keeping their produce hidden away in the garden centre, they have plans to introduce meat boxes available across the UK, and host meat masterclasses in the Winter.

They will also be showcasing their produce at the Sizzle Fest in Southampton later this month, with Anthony running a butchery competition, and their meats being cooked at the giant BBQ.
