THE price of motoring is continuing to rise over the Easter Bank Holiday, fuelling fears that our journeys home after the four-day break will be the most expensive ever.
Record prices in many parts of the country hit a staggering 112.9p per litre for petrol and 125.9 for diesel.
Prices in Dorset have not quite reached those dizzy heights but they appear to be creeping up almost daily.
Daily Echo staff out and about in the area yesterday discovered petrol going for 109.9p and diesel at 119.9p at the BP garage in Castle Lane East, near the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
And the Esso garage at nearby Tesco, formerly known as one of the cheapest in the area, was displaying prices of 107.9p and 114.9p respectively.
It is estimated that filling up the average family car now costs nearly £12 more than it did a year ago.
The price increases are yet another blow to motorists recently hit by higher car tax announced in last week's budget.
Chancellor Alistair Darling decided against putting an extra 2p per litre on fuel, but the measure has only been delayed until October.
