A SHOP in Upton was forced to close early on Sunday followingan aggravated robbery. 

Staff at the Co-op store in Poole Road were left “shaken” on Sunday, September 11, after the incident and are being fully supported, but nobody was reported as being injured. 

The store reopened the following day on Monday, September 12. 

A spokesperson for Co-op said: “There was an incident at our Poole Road store on the afternoon of Sunday, 11 September, involving an aggravated robbery – fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, but colleagues were left feeling shaken and are being fully supported.

“Guarding is in place, and the store re-opened to serve the community the following day on Monday, 12 September.” 

The incident is not the first time Co-op in Upton has been the subject of a serious crime in recent months. 

In June, thieves in a black Range Rover ram-raided the shop in the early hours of Thursday, June 9. 

Police said around four or five men dressed in black clothing got out and loaded an ATM machine into the car. 

Residents were left shocked at the damage caused, as glass and produce were seen scattered across the pavement.
