DAVID Cameron's brush with the law over his transgressions while cycling to work are unlikely to affect his chances of being the next Prime Minister.
He has probably ensured the vote of the bike lobby is in the bag and at the same time enhanced his green credentials.
And the fact that he's broken a few rules also makes him seem a little more human than the dour Mr Brown - can you imagine him getting on a bike or infringing the rules of the highway?
However, Dave has probably done us all a favour by highlighting what a pain in the butt and a safety hazard many cyclists are. It's ironic that he faces a bit of an embarrassing talking-to by Plod about his activities which included riding up a one way street the wrong way and crossing a red light. Met officers will no doubt enjoy giving him a dressing down.
But if the example of this area is anything to go by, police forces and local authorities up and down the land ought to be putting a lot more effort into cracking down on cyclists.
Riding like lunatics through busy pedestrianised zones and along pavements, riding with no lights at night while wearing the darkest possible clothing, seemingly lacking any road sense whatsoever; members of our cycling fraternity can be seen doing all these things in and around town every day of the week.
Yes, many motorists are a danger to others too, but at least they stand some chance of getting caught.
Cyclists appear to be completely free to be a public nuisance.
A bit of zero tolerance on the two wheeled menaces is long overdue.
