BASHLEY'S leading scorer Richard Gillespie turned goal maker as two first-half strikes strengthened their play-off push.

Gillespie has netted 17 times this season despite spending a spell on the sidelines through injury.

But his dazzling footwork out on the wing completely flummoxed Supermarine yesterday as he laid on chances for Ryan Moss and Craig Davis to convert.

Early on, Gillespie got to the by-line before pulling the ball back for Moss to poke home from a couple of yards to fire Bashley in front.

Then Moss, who netted his 16th goal of the season, flicked on a long free kick into the path of Gillespie, who again terrorised Supermarine's defence to turn provider again.

This time, just before the break, he set Davis up from the by-line, dragging the ball back before the midfielder hit the net with a brilliant bicycle kick effort.

Bashley manager Steve Riley said: "It was a fantastic finish from Craig, but Gilly has done well to set him and Ryan up with some terrific wing work."

Riley, whose fifth-placed side edged closer to confirming a play-off spot, added: "Defensively we were secure, we kept a clean sheet again.

"Swindon had us under pressure in the second half a lot. They had to push forward and try and get something because they still have an outside chance of getting into the play-offs if they can put a winning run together.

"They left some space behind them though and when we did get the ball and counter attacked we caused them some trouble.

"Apart from our two goals, we had some other great chances.

"Mossy and Gilly were both denied by good saves from their goalkeeper in one-on-ones and Justin Keeler also went close in the second half.

"Even though Swindon put us under a lot of pressure, they didn't create any chances. We had all the chances."

Asked if he felt his side's play-off place was already safe, Riley said: "Ask me the same question next week.

"We have Hemel Hempstead at home on Saturday and that is a big game. We can answer a few questions next week when we also host Team Bath and Rugby.

"That's six wins in seven matches now and we will take the confidence from that run into the Hemel game."
