POOLE’S Twin Sails Bridge has been illuminated purple in tribute to Her Late Majesty the Queen.
It is one of three structures across the conurbation that will be lit up each evening during the national period of mourning.
The bridge, along with Bournemouth Pier and the Bournemouth Civic Centre, will be lit up each evening between 9pm and 5am as the country pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
Councillor Nigel Hedges, Chairman of BCP Council said: “During the national period of mourning, the Twin Sails Bridge is being lit in purple each evening, as a mark of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Bournemouth Pier will also be lit in purple each evening, between 9pm and 5am, as well as Bournemouth Civic Centre.
“The colour purple is closely linked with royalty and played a central part in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.
“I know that everyone at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council hopes this modest show of affection for Her Majesty and her reign brings comfort to our residents through this sad time.”
The Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 19.
