TWO homes in Bournemouth have been closed down following issues of anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity.

The closure orders from the courts have been obtained by BCP Council following months of “extensive work” by the local authority and police.

The council obtained the three-month orders at Poole Magistrates’ Court in relation to 9 Victoria Place and Flat 1, 252 Holdenhurst Road, Springbourne.

As reported, the Holdenhurst Road address was subject to a closure order in late June.

Councillor Bobbie Dove, BCP Council portfolio Holder for community safety, said: “Closure Orders are part of the measures available to the council’s ASB team when all other efforts to resolve a situation which presents harmful activity have been exhausted.

“The order for Victoria Place followed extensive multi agency partnership work over a number of months, to prevent exploitation, to give the community respite from anti-social behaviours and to improve quality of life for all residents in the area.

"This is part of a wider partnership approach to tackling exploitation.

“The Holdenhurst Road order follows concerns raised by the local community.

"The ASB team have worked closely with the police and residents in order to resolve the issues before taking this action, which stops unlawful activity and protects the wider community from the impact of anti-social behaviour.”

Dorset Police said officers from the Boscombe Neighbourhood Policing Team had been working with council officers and residents after concerns were raised.

A force spokesman said: “This type of behaviour has a detrimental effect on the local community and we hope this sends a clear message that we are committed to taking action in response to concerns of this nature that are raised by residents.

“Boscombe Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to work tirelessly with partner agencies and local communities to take a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour.

“We would encourage anyone who has concerns about ASB in their community to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or call us on 101.”

BCP Council has now obtained seven closure orders since April, with the aim of protecting individuals and the community from harm.

Cllr Dove said: “This demonstrates our commitment to keeping our communities safe. Criminal and anti-social behaviour activity has no place in BCP.

"Both of these orders follow months of extensive work and positive action by the Council and Dorset Police.

“If residents are experiencing anti-social behaviour we encourage them to report to the Police using 101 and if there are ongoing concerns, to contact the ASB team at asbteam@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.”
